These frequency bands have worked very well for me over the years.
They might or might not work for you. I encourage you to try them for yourself.
Generally speaking, I recommend to listen to a monoed mix on only one speaker
at least from time to time. That can also work well for building your arrangement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Club next door filter - 120 Hz 12dB lowpass filter
Interaction and dynamics of kick and bass
Finding highpass frequencies easier because mids and highs dont disturb
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lowend transition into low mids - 338 Hz 12dB lowpass filter
That seems to be kind of an odd frequency, but somehow it works;)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Low mids 338 - 600 Hz 12 dB
Uncluttering the Mix
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Golden midrange pocket - 600-3700 Hz 12db Bandpass
Checking translation on all speakers
This one I have from Jack Joseph Puig, before he used
400 - 6000 Hz for the midrange, but that switch to 600-3700 really makes a difference
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
High end 3700 Hz 12dB Highpass filter
Too much sizzle ?
Too little / too much volume or harmonic information of some instruments ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Center - frequency of a mix
If we look at the audible frequency spectrum of 20-20kHz for me the center frequency, kind of the tilting point of a mix, is 2Khz.
Which filters do you use ?
Best, Mario
